Rupali Ganguly bats for National Awards for tv actors

Mumbai, Aug 5: Television star Rupali Ganguly has made a passionate plea for the inclusion of TV actors in the National Film Awards, highlighting the relentless efforts of television artistes, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a recent event in Mumbai, the Anupamaa actress said, “There are National Awards for everyone — from film stars to content creators. But there's nothing for TV artistes. We worked non-stop from 6 am to 6 pm during the pandemic while others could delay shoots. It would be nice to have some validation for our hard work.”

Her remarks come shortly after Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Vikrant Massey were named winners of the 71st National Film Awards.

Addressing online buzz about a rivalry with Smriti Irani — following Irani’s return to television with a reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi — Rupali dismissed the rumours. “I am very proud that Smriti ji is back on TV. Her comeback is a big validation and will draw attention back to television,” she said.

Rupali, one of television’s highest-paid stars, currently headlines Anupamaa, the Hindi remake of Bengali hit Sreemoyee, produced by Rajan Shahi.
