South Goa hospital denies negligence in patient death

Daijiworld Media Network – Margao

Margao, Aug 10: Medical Superintendent of the South Goa District Hospital, Dr Rajendra Borkar, has refuted allegations of negligence in the death of 69-year-old Jagdish Jamuni, insisting that all necessary medical care was provided.

Dr Borkar clarified that the patient, admitted at 12.45 am on August 7, was on a central oxygen line with backup from a PSA plant and oxygen trolleys, ruling out any shortage. He termed the claims by the patient’s relatives as “false and defamatory.”

The patient was first admitted to the district hospital on July 10 but discharged the next day at the family’s request. He was later treated at a private hospital before being referred back with uncontrolled diabetes and other complications.

Dr Borkar said he coordinated the transfer on August 6 and confirmed that the patient died at 11.25 pm on August 7 due to disease complications, and not because of medical negligence.
