Mangaluru: Lifeguard who held Worldwide Book of Records title drowns in pool

Mangaluru, Aug 10: In a tragic incident, a swimming coach and lifeguard drowned at the municipal swimming pool in Ladyhill, Mangaluru, on Sunday, August 10.

The deceased has been identified as K Chandrashekar Rai Surikumaru (52).

According to sources, the pool was closed to the public on Sunday for maintenance work. Rai reportedly entered the water for a swim during this time but drowned.

In 2023, Chandrashekar Rai had made it to the Worldwide Book of Records by performing 28 underwater somersaults in one minute at the same pool.

Police are investigating the incident.
