Bangkok, Aug 10: India's next generation of boxing stars made a powerful statement at the U19 Asian Boxing Championships 2025, with the country's young women pugilists leading from the front. The Indian contingent returned with an impressive haul of 14 medals, including three gold, seven silver, and four bronze, reaffirming their rising status on the continental stage.
Women Power Paves the Way
India’s medal run was headlined by Nisha (54kg) and Muskan (57kg), who clinched gold with hard-fought victories in their respective finals. Nisha outboxed China’s Sirui Yang with a dominant final round, securing a 4:1 win. Muskan, displaying a bold and aggressive strategy, edged past Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Ermek in a 3:2 split decision to double India's gold tally.
Out of 10 Indian women who competed, nine stood on the podium, bringing home two golds, five silvers, and two bronzes, a performance that places India alongside continental giants like China, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Rahul Kundu Adds Gold in Men’s Campaign
In the men’s section, Rahul Kundu (75kg) added the third gold for India after a gritty 4:1 win over Uzbekistan’s Muhammadjon Yakupboevek. Rahul’s composed technique and counter-attacking strategy saw him through in a fiercely contested final.
Other male finalists, including Mausam Suhag (65kg) and Hemant Sangwan (92kg), settled for silver after narrow defeats against strong opponents from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Silver and Bronze Medals Galore
Despite falling just short of the top podium step, several Indian boxers put up strong performances in their finals:
• Vini (60kg) lost to Sevara Mamatova (Uzbekistan)
• Nisha (65kg) was edged out by Arinda Akimoto (Japan)
• Aarti Kumari (75kg) and Kritika Wasan (80kg) were outboxed by opponents from China and Kazakhstan, respectively

Bronze medals were secured by Yashika (51kg), Akanksha Phalaswal (70kg), Shivam (55kg), and Gaurav (85kg) — further cementing India's deep talent pool.
Eyes on U22 Showdowns
The Indian team isn’t done yet — with 13 U22 boxers already assured of medals and five more fighting for gold on Monday, the final medal tally could rise even higher.
India’s 40-member squad, equally divided across U19 and U22 categories, has delivered a strong performance marked by resilience, talent, and the hunger to dominate at the continental level.
As the championships draw to a close, India's display in Bangkok signals a bright future for Indian boxing, with young fighters proving they’re ready to take on the best Asia has to offer.
