Massive crowds queue overnight for Ganeshotsav coupon sale in Sanguem

Sanguem, Aug 11: Braving intense heat and long hours of waiting, thousands of hopefuls gathered outside the Sanguem Municipal building from midnight onwards, eager to grab donation coupons for the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal’s mega prize draw.

By the time sales began at 9 a.m., the queue had stretched over 1.5 kilometres, reaching all the way to the Government Sports Complex. Despite the scorching sun, spirits were high — some who joined the line at 6 a.m. only reached the counter by 2 p.m., yet wore smiles of excitement and anticipation.

Due to the overwhelming turnout, organisers reduced the per-person limit from one booklet of 10 tickets to five, ensuring more people had a chance to participate. By evening, all 1.5 lakh coupons, priced at Rs 500 each, were completely sold out.

Major Prizes Up for Grabs:

• 1st Prize: 2BHK flat in Fatorda + Rs 35 lakh cash
• 2nd Prize: 2BHK flat in Curchorem + Rs 29.5 lakh
• 3rd Prize: Mahindra XEV + Rs 14.2 lakh
• 4th Prize: Tata Harrier EV + Rs 11.5 lakh
• 5th Prize: MG Windsor Plus + Rs 8.75 lakh
• 6th–10th Prizes: Tata Punch EV + Rs 5 lakh each
• 11th–15th Prizes: Maruti Fronx SUV + Rs 4 lakh each
• 16th–20th Prizes: Tata Tiago EV + Rs 4 lakh each

In a departure from previous years, the organisers handled the sale directly, rather than outsourcing it, resulting in greater transparency and community involvement.

Part of the proceeds, the organisers announced, will go toward the construction of the Shri Paikdev Temple at Temchowaddo, Sanguem — a cause that has drawn significant local support.
