Mount Carmel students join hands on innovation drive at ATL Mega Tinkering Day 2025

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 14: NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission organized Mega Tinkering Day 2025 on August 12 through a nationwide webinar cum demonstration, aiming to promote creativity, innovation and hands-on learning. With nearly ten thousand schools from across India participating, the students of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru enthusiastically joined the event, fuelled by curiosity and a willingness to embrace new ideas.

The school’s ATL mentor, Ajay Pais introduced the students to the programme before dividing them into eight teams of five members each. Every team was led by an appointed leader, while overall coordination was managed by ATL captain Prakhyath and assistant captain Reeyon, both from grade X. Suman Lasrado oversaw the technical aspects, with Keith Netto assisting in the smooth conduct of the session.

The webinar conducted via Zoom by the NITI Aayog in-charge, began with an explanation of the working principles of a vacuum cleaner, followed by a step-by-step demonstration on how to construct one using a discarded plastic bottle. Guided by this practical online session, the students successfully built their own vacuum cleaner models within two hours. In keeping with the Atal Innovation Mission Handbook guidelines, photographs and video evidence of the session were duly captured for documentation.

The webinar with hands-on project offered valuable insights into the innovative use of everyday components, showcasing how gadgets and materials can be optimised for creative purposes.
