Manu Bhaker wins bronze at Asian Shooting Championship as India shines in Shymkent

Shymkent (Kazakhstan), Aug 19: India’s star shooter Manu Bhaker added another accolade to her impressive career, clinching the bronze medal in the 10m women’s air pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championship on Tuesday.

Manu, a two-time Olympic medallist, scored 219.7 in the final round of the eight-woman showdown. She finished behind Korea’s Yang Jiin, who claimed silver with 241.6, and China’s Qianke Ma, who took the gold with a commanding 243.2.

Strong Qualification Performance

Earlier in the 60-shot qualification, Manu secured third place with a score of 583-18x, outscoring both of her final-round rivals:
• Yang Jiin: 581-16x (5th)
• Qianke Ma: 579-15x (7th)

Day One Highlights: A Medal Haul for India

India made a strong start to the championship on Monday, securing two gold and three silver medals:

• Kapil Bainsla won gold in the junior men’s air pistol
• Girish Gupta claimed gold in the 10m air pistol youth men’s final with 241.3
o Dev Pratap (14) followed closely for silver with 238.6, marking a 1-2 finish for India

In the senior men’s 10m air pistol team event, the Indian trio of Anmol Jain, Saurabh Chaudhary, and Aditya Malra bagged the silver medal, scoring 1735-52x. They finished just behind China’s gold-winning team, who posted 1744-51x.

A Massive Indian Contingent

India has sent a strong 35-member senior squad to compete across 15 events, alongside 129 junior shooters participating in various categories.

With early podium finishes and several events yet to unfold, India’s shooters are off to a promising start at the Shymkent meet, raising hopes for a high medal tally in the days to come.
