Mangaluru, Aug 23: Extra classes on Saturdays have begun in the district after Dakshina Kannada (DK) deputy director of public instruction (administration), Shashidhar, directed headmasters to hold them to compensate for the holidays declared due to heavy rains.
In the current academic year, the district administration had declared seven holidays for government, aided, and unaided primary and high schools due to incessant rains. Additionally, in taluks such as Mangaluru, Mulki, Moodbidri, Bantwal, and Ullal, the respective tahsildars had declared precautionary holidays, further increasing the number of lost working days.

To make up for this ‘loss of classes’, it has been decided to conduct sessions on Saturday afternoons and additional classes on upcoming holidays to adjust the academic working days.
The same directive has also been extended to pre-university colleges. Institutions have been instructed by the department of pre-university education to hold classes on Saturdays and holidays to cover the lessons missed due to rain holidays.
