Kadaba, Aug 26: A crocodile has been sighted in the Gauri stream at Surve, located along the Puttur–Savanur–Subrahmanya state highway, creating panic among locals.
The crocodile was first spotted resting on a sand mound in the stream by local farmer Keshavachandra, who immediately alerted residents.

Farmers are now hesitant to move near their fields adjoining the stream, fearing an attack. The situation has caused greater anxiety as the stream flows close to the main road, raising concerns that the crocodile might stray towards the roadside at any time.
Locals recalled that a crocodile had been sighted in the same stream in December 2024 as well.
Residents of the region are already troubled by frequent wild elephant movement, and the presence of a crocodile has added to their worries. Some villagers believe that dumping of waste into the stream has attracted the reptile, which has often been seen near the Surve bridge in recent days.
Villagers have urged the forest department to capture the crocodile immediately and release it in a safe habitat.
