New Delhi, Aug 28: Domestic air traffic in India witnessed a 2.94% dip in July compared to June, even as overall numbers for the year continue to show steady growth, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

From January to July 2025, domestic airlines carried 977.7 lakh passengers, marking a 5.90% rise over the 923.3 lakh passengers recorded during the same period last year.

DGCA data also reflected a decline in passenger load factor (PLF) across several airlines in July, pointing to a dip in seat occupancy compared to the previous month.

IndiGo continued its lead in the Indian skies, carrying over 65% of all domestic passengers in July. The airline also topped on-time performance (OTP) at six major metro airports—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata—with a score of 91.4%.

During July, airlines received 1,257 passenger complaints, with “flight problems” emerging as the main grievance category, according to the regulator’s report.

Despite the monthly dip, aviation authorities noted that the year’s cumulative trend remains positive, with steady demand growth in India’s domestic aviation sector.
