Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug 28: The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has issued a red alert across the district in view of continuing heavy rainfall, based on forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).

As a precautionary measure, all Anganwadi centres, primary and high schools, pre-university colleges, and both government-aided and private educational institutions will remain closed on Friday, August 29.

The authority has also issued safety advisories to the public: parents must ensure that children do not go near low-lying waterlogged areas, ponds, riversides, or seashores; fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea; and tourists and the general public have been asked to avoid riverbanks and beaches.

Officials at both district and taluk levels have been directed to remain at their headquarters, stay in constant touch with the district control room, and respond promptly to complaints. Departments concerned have been asked to set up care centres at the taluk level and remain on alert.

For any emergency related to natural disasters, the public may contact the 24x7 control room at toll-free number 1077 or 0824-2442590.

The district administration has urged citizens to remain cautious and cooperate with authorities until the weather situation improves.
