Mangaluru: SAPMUN 2025 concludes with inspiring valedictory ceremony

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 31: St Aloysius Pre-University College hosted the seventh edition of SAPMUN 2025 (St Aloysius Pre-University Model United Nations), which concluded with its valedictory ceremony on August 31. The three-day conference was marked by vibrant intellectual engagement and dynamic discussions, providing a platform for students to critically examine global challenges and propose viable solutions through diplomacy and debate.

This year’s edition brought together over 400 delegates from more than 30 institutions, who deliberated on some of the most pressing global issues facing the world today. The themes addressed included the ethics of international sanctions, the risks of war and escalating tensions in South Asia, strategies to end statelessness, and the influence of cinematic narratives on youth, among others.

The discussions were conducted within a wide range of committees such as the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Women (UNW), Double Crisis Committee (DCC), Lok Sabha, Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM), Bollywood Reform Council (BRC), and the International Press (IP). Each committee served as a platform for delegates to demonstrate critical thinking, engage in diplomatic negotiations, and exhibit leadership skills while collaborating on draft resolutions.

The valedictory ceremony commenced with a solemn prayer song, setting a reflective tone for the evening, followed by a graceful welcome dance. Muralikrishna G M, vice principal of Science, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. He urged the delegates to celebrate the outcomes of their sessions, to kindle the spark of growth within themselves, and to aspire to become leaders of change. He then introduced the chief guest, Dr Maneesh K. Rai, cardiac electrophysiologist and associate professor at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, highlighting his distinguished contributions to the field of medicine.

Dr Maneesh K. Rai congratulated the delegates for their participation and commended the management for providing such an opportunity. He remarked that the timing of the conference was significant, as the world is grappling with geopolitical tensions, wars, and trade conflicts. He also fondly recalled his student days at St Aloysius.

Sharing words of wisdom, he reminded the delegates that life is not a race to be rushed through. He cautioned against the restlessness of today’s generation, where everything is sought instantly, noting that a constant rush harms both the mind and body in the long run. “Take it slow; don’t be in a hurry,” he advised.

He emphasized that while one may not get everything in life, it is always possible to achieve what one truly seeks through focus and hard work. The path, he said, may not be easy, but persistence and discipline would lead to success. Urging students to stop comparing, competing, and seeking validation from others, he encouraged them instead to pursue their passions, to cheer for others, and to recognize that good things take time just like different flowers their own time to bloom.

Dr Maneesh emphasized that grit, perseverance, and relentless hard work often achieve more than raw talent. In the long run, he noted, resilience and consistency ultimately prevail over natural ability.

Speaking on aspirations, he urged the delegates to dream big, describing true dreams as those that keep one awake at night. He reminded them that success in life does not come merely through talent, but through hard work, determination, and resilience. “Do not give up, even when the path is tough,” he urged, inspiring students to remain steadfast. Concluding his address, he left the gathering with a powerful message: “Write your own story.”

The director general of SAPMUN 2025, Namratha Shenoy, addressed the audience with a reflection on her journey in the conference, beginning as under secretary-general, advancing to deputy speaker, and ultimately culminating in her role as director general. She noted that her progression reflected the experiences of many first-time delegates, who entered with uncertainty but, over the three days, developed confidence, diplomacy, and valuable insights through debates, negotiations, and observations She noted that her progression mirrored the journey of many first-time delegates, who entered with uncertainty but, over three days, gained confidence, honed their diplomatic skills, and acquired valuable insights through debates, negotiations, and observations. She further emphasized that the essence of SAPMUN lies not in awards alone, but in personal growth, courage, and learning that extend beyond the committee room. The session concluded with the traditional strike of the gavel, formally marking the close of the seventh edition of SAPMUN.
