Manchester, Sep 1: Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was injured in a car accident in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Saturday evening. Police confirmed that Giuliani, 81, was a passenger in a ford bronco when it was rear-ended, causing both vehicles to veer into the median.
According to his security guard, Michael Ragusa, Giuliani sustained a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations, contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg. All those involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.
The accident occurred shortly after Giuliani had assisted an alleged domestic violence victim who flagged him down on the road. “Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911,” Ragusa said. Police later confirmed they were investigating a domestic violence case nearby when the collision occurred.
Authorities have identified the driver who struck Giuliani’s vehicle, though no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
Giuliani, once celebrated as ‘America’s mayor’ for his leadership during the September 11, 2001 attacks, later became an adviser and personal lawyer to Donald Trump before parting ways. He unsuccessfully ran for the US Presidency in 2008 and played a key role in Trump’s 2016 campaign and subsequent legal challenges to the 2020 election.
Earlier this year, Giuliani reached a tentative settlement with two former election workers after being ordered to pay $148 million in damages for defamation over false election fraud claims.
