District-level one-day disaster management training held at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University)

Mangaluru, Sep 4: The Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dakshina Kannada, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Regional Response Centre Bengaluru, successfully organised a one-day district-level disaster management training at the Yendurance Zone, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Raju K, who emphasised the importance of disaster preparedness and the active participation of youth in mitigating and responding to natural disasters.

In his address, he underscored the significance of timely actions and community-based disaster management efforts, particularly driven by the youth. CA Shantharama Shetty, who also graced the occasion, highlighted the crucial role that youth play in disaster management and how their involvement can help build resilient communities.

The programme was presided over by Dr M Vijayakumar, vice chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), who reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering an environment of learning and community service. He encouraged the participants to equip themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to disasters.

Key figures in the event included Dr Gangadhara Somayaji KS, registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Vijayakumar Pujari, nodal officer, DDMA Dakshina Kannada, and Nithyashree B V, YRC nodal officer, who played a vital role in coordinating the training programme.

The training saw enthusiastic participation from YRC volunteers, programme officers, faculty coordinators, and students from the constituent colleges of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).

The event was compered by Adrija Bhuniya, programme officer, Pharmacy College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), and commenced with a prayer by Aza Ashraf, a student from the Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Yenepoya Medical College.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Nithyashree B V, YRC nodal officer, acknowledging the contributions of all the stakeholders, volunteers, and participants.

The training provided invaluable insights into disaster preparedness, response strategies, and the importance of community collaboration in tackling emergency situations.

This successful initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and its partners to foster disaster resilience and preparedness in the community.
