Mumbai, Sep 5: Mumbai Police has been put on high alert after receiving a chilling threat call claiming that 34 “human bombs” carrying 400 kg of RDX have been planted across the city in vehicles, with the intention of triggering blasts that would “shake the entire city”.
The call, received on the traffic police helpline, said the planned explosions could kill nearly one crore people. Police officials immediately launched checks and stepped up security across key installations, transport hubs, and public places.
The threat comes at a time when the city has been witnessing a spate of hoax bomb alerts. Earlier this week, a 43-year-old man from Thane was arrested for allegedly making a fake call about planting a bomb at Kalwa railway station.
In August, the ISKCON temple in south Mumbai’s Girgaon received a bomb threat email, which was later declared a hoax after a thorough search by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). The temple had received a similar email again in September.
On July 25, a caller threatened a blast at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), but nothing suspicious was found.
With repeated threats rattling the city, Mumbai Police has urged citizens to remain vigilant but avoid panic. Security agencies are treating the latest warning with utmost seriousness.
