'Teachers are jewels of society,' says Bhojegowda at Christ King Teachers’ Day celebration

Media Release

Karkala, Sep 5: The renowned Christ King Educational Institution celebrated Teachers’ Day in a grand manner under the auspices of the Parents - Teachers Association at the institution’s newly built college auditorium. Karnataka Legislative council member SL Bhojegowda was the chief guest. Inaugurating the event by lighting the lamp, he remarked, “Human values in society are diminishing, and as a result, the sacred teacher–student bond is also deteriorating. Today, relationships are measured in terms of money, which is unfortunate. Teachers are the jewels of this society; they alone have the power to shape a cultured community. If anyone in this world creates the finest leaders, it is teachers.”

Another guest, Sanjeeva Devadiga, a state-level award-winning retired headmaster, said, “If teachers work with a spirit of dedication, holistic student development becomes possible. Teachers must cultivate love and pride in their profession.”

On the occasion, Swarnalata K, headmistress of Government High School, Renjal, was honored with the ‘Christ King Shikshak Ratna’ award, while Fredrick Rebello, physical education teacher of Bailur Government Pre-University College, received the ‘Christ King Kreeda Shikshak Shri’ award.

Acknowledging the honour, Swarnalata said, “Just as a stone sculpted by a chisel becomes a fine idol, challenges and hardships shape a strong personality.”

Fredrick Rebello in his address added, “Students must cultivate courage and resilience to become responsible citizens. Each of us must recognize our talents and shape our future.”

Dr Peter Fernandes, member of the Christ King Education Trust, presided over the programme and said, “Teachers must nurture children with love and care. True patriotism is serving the nation through thought, word, and deed. The future of India is built inside classrooms, and when students receive value-based education, India can emerge as a world leader.”

Parents - Teachers Association PUC division president Dayananda Malebettu delivered a message, while PUC principal Lakshminarayana Kamath proposed the introduction, and Kannada lecturer Umesh Bellippadi presented the awardees.

During the event, Mathematics lecturer Arun Sandeep D’Souza, office assistant Prithvi Shetty, and Librarian Reshma were also felicitated. All teachers, lecturers, and non-teaching staff of the institution were honoured with mementos.

Present on the dais were Avelyn Lewis, secretary, Christ King Education Trust; Rudolf Kishore Lobo, headmaster, Primary School; and Josna Snehalata, headmistress, High School.

Various entertainment programs by teachers and parents added colour to the celebration. Programmes were compered by Shakeela G Shetty, Vidya, Mamata, Vishwanath Poojary, Kishan, Prakash D’Souza, Sunil D’Souza, John Tauro, and Vanitha.

The Parents - Teachers Association primary division president Uday Ravi welcomed the gathering, while High School Division president Sharita Noronha proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by association members Hemalatha and Yashaswini Rao.
