Udupi, Sep 8: “If one faces life’s challenges with consistent effort and hard work, success becomes achievable,” said Mishel Queenie D’Costa, IRS officer and assistant commissioner in the customs department, Mumbai.
She was speaking at a discussion programme organized at Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Kakkunje, Santhekatte, on September 8, under the joint auspices of the Udupi Diocesan Youth Commission and the Education and Social Media Commission.

Mishel Queenie D’Costa noted that those aspiring to serve in government through central and state-level entrance exams can shape their future with determination by making the best use of available resources. “Although students from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts excel academically, they do not show much interest in government services. There is also a misconception that securing a government job is very difficult. Hence, there is a need to create awareness and motivate young people,” she said.
Shreyans Gomes of Udupi, who secured the 372nd rank in the 2024 UPSC examination, shared his thoughts on his preparation journey and the challenges he faced during the exam.
Presiding over the event, bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, said that children from the community should always dream of entering government service. He assured that the diocese would provide proper guidance to students who have such aspirations.
Fr Vincent Crasta, director of the Education Commission, welcomed the gathering. Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of the diocese, introduced the guests. Fr Steven Fernandes, director of the Youth Commission, led the prayer service. The program was compered by Leslie Arouza, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
