Indian-American Congressman condemns temple attacks in US

Washington, Sep 10: Indian-American Congressman Suhas Subramanyam has strongly condemned recent attacks on Hindu temples across the United States, terming them “hateful” acts and part of a growing trend of violence against places of worship.

Speaking on the floor of the US House of Representatives, Subramanyam said, “Hate has no place in our communities.” He noted that incidents such as vandalism at the BAPS Sri Swaminarayan Mandir in Indiana and the Shri Shri Radha Krishna Temple in Utah cannot be viewed as isolated, but as part of a worrying pattern.

Hindu-American advocacy groups, including the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) and Hindu ACTion, welcomed his remarks. They lauded him for drawing national attention to the threats faced by Hindu temples and urged stronger measures to ensure the safety of religious institutions.

Local authorities are investigating the cases, which have involved graffiti and damage to temple property. Community leaders have cautioned that such incidents not only defile sacred spaces but also instill fear among Hindu Americans.
