At the location, officers spotted a man in a yellow long-sleeve shirt and sky-blue jeans standing by the roadside, appearing to wait for someone. Upon questioning, he identified himself as Abdul Rehman (46) from Bappanadu village, Mulki, Mangaluru.
During interrogation, Abdul Rehman confessed to working with a man named Nishant, who runs an online shop at Kodialbail. Together, they used computer software to edit Aadhaar details such as numbers, names, phone numbers, addresses, and photographs to create fake Aadhaar cards. These forged IDs were then submitted as genuine records to different departments and even presented in courts to secure bail for accused individuals.
Police seized two mobile phones from Abdul Rehman. On one of his phone, several Aadhaar cards were found exchanged via WhatsApp with a contact saved as Nishant. When officers opened a card saved under the name ‘Achari’, it displayed Aadhaar details of ‘Vyasaraya Achar’ with a UID number. However, scanning the QR code through the mAadhaar application revealed the verified Aadhaar belonged to Dinakara of Panjikal, Dakshina Kannada, proving the card had been tampered with.
Investigations revealed that Abdul Rehman and Nishant had created multiple such forged Aadhaar cards by altering names, numbers, photos, and other details, and passed them off as genuine to government offices and courts.
Police have confirmed that a team is probing the case further, two more cases will be registered, and more arrests are expected soon.
