Udupi: Two arrested for firing gun near Kanajaru; illegal weapon and bike seized

Udupi, Sep 11: Police in the Hiriadka station limits have arrested two individuals for firing gunshots from an unlicensed rifle in a manner that endangered human life while attempting to hunt.

On September 1, at around 12:15 am, unidentified persons recklessly fired a gun near the residence of Gururaj Manjittaya in Kanajaru village, allegedly for hunting purposes, without taking any precautionary measures. The bullet struck the glass of a car and then hit a wooden door.

Following this, a case was registered at Hiriadka police station. Acting on the case, Hiriadka PSI Puneeth Kumar B E, along with his team, arrested two accused on September 10.

The accused have been identified as Pradeep (32), son of Vasu Naik, resident of Darkhasu House, Kondadi, 82 Kudi village, Udupi taluk and district, and Manoj (25), son of Kutti, resident of Poopadi Kallu, Guddeangadi post, Bommarabettu Village, Udupi taluk.

During the operation, police seized an unlicensed single-barrel gun (worth around Rs 50,000), seven cartridges, and a Bajaj Discover motorcycle (worth around Rs 40,000) used in the crime. The accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, IPS, additional superintendent of police-1 Sudhakar, KSP, Udupi sub-division DySP Prabhu D T, and circle inspector Gopikrishna.

The Hiriadka police team included PSI Puneeth Kumar B E, PSI Vithal Malvadkar, and staff members Praveen Rai, Krishna, and Karthik.
