Kasargod, Sep 11: In a tragic incident, two workers lost their lives after a crane malfunctioned and collapsed during national highway construction work at Mogral Puttur on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Akshay (30) of Vadagara, Kozhikode, and Ashwin (30). Akshay succumbed at Kumbla Hospital, while Ashwin passed away at a hospital in Mangaluru.
The mishap occurred while workers were installing electric lights on the highway using a crane. Both men were inside the crane’s box carrying out the work when it suddenly detached and fell onto the service road. Though they sustained grievous injuries and were rushed to hospitals, doctors could not save their lives.

The bodies have been kept at the mortuary of Kasargod General Hospital and will be handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem examination.
This tragic incident comes close on the heels of another accident at the Mangalawada Cherkala flyover, where a worker, Rakhy Bul Haq (27) from Assam, died after accidentally falling while on duty.
