Mangaluru: Divorce averted as Lok Adalat reunites estranged couple

Mangaluru, Sept 13: A Lok Adalat held at the Dakshina Kannada District Court on Saturday brought about a heart-warming resolution when a couple on the verge of divorce decided to reconcile and give their marriage a second chance.

Harish and Shashikala, who had earlier filed for divorce citing marital differences, were counselled through the court’s mediation centre in a bid to resolve their issues amicably.

During the mediation process, both were encouraged to communicate openly and reflect on their relationship. After sustained efforts, the couple agreed to withdraw their petition and reunite.

“We realised that most of our issues could be resolved through dialogue. We’re willing to make a fresh start,” the couple reportedly told the mediators.

On Saturday, they appeared before the Lok Adalat and, in the presence of principal district and sessions judge Basavaraj, exchanged garlands — a symbolic act of reconciliation — marking the official closure of the case.

The event was witnessed by Jaibunnisa, member secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, along with several judges and legal professionals from across the district.

Officials hailed the case as a successful example of the Lok Adalat’s role not only in legal settlement but in restoring harmony within families.
