Udupi, Sep 15: Paryaya Puttige seer, Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math, offered libation (Arghya) to Lord Krishna at Sri Krishna Math here on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, accompanied by other Swamijis of the Math after midnight on Monday, September 15.

The ritual was performed at around 12.11 am. Thereafter, devotees were also allowed to offer Arghya to the Lord with devotion.

Devotees observed a day-long fast on Sunday until they offered libation to mark the divine appearance of Lord Sri Krishna on earth to annihilate demons. At midnight, as the moon rose, the Swamiji took a dip in the Math pond, performed a special puja, and offered libation to the Lord at the appointed time according to the Hindu calendar. Once the libation was offered, the fast was broken by the Swamijis and devotees alike. As per tradition, Janmashtami is observed with Arghya offering at midnight, followed by a ritual dip, puja, and the breaking of the fast.

The Krishna Leelotsava (Vitlapindi) celebrations will be held on Car Street on Monday, September 15, at 3 pm. Anna prasadam will be served to devotees from 11 am onwards. A large number of devotees are expected to participate in the Vitlapindi celebrations.
