Bantwal, Sep 16: Acting on a tip-off, Vittal police arrested three men attempting to peddle illegal ganja in Bantwal taluk. The arrests mark a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the region.

The accused, identified as Sanath Kumar (23), Mohammad Razik (23), and Chetan (23), all residents of Manglapadavu village, Vitla Kasaba, were apprehended near Erumbu Road in Alike village on September 15.

Police sub-inspector Ramakrishna, leading the operation, said, “During our routine rounds, we received reliable information about suspicious individuals loitering with a two-wheeler near the area. Upon questioning, they admitted to possessing ganja and attempting to sell it.”

Officers seized 6.27 grams of ganja, along with three mobile phones, a small knife, and the two-wheeler used in the operation. “The quantity seized, though small, indicates organised activity,” the SI added.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a fourth accused, Dhyan Karkera (23) from Erme Majalu, who is currently in police custody.

The police confirmed the probe is ongoing.
