Panaji, Sep 17: Colvale Police have arrested a 22-year-old man, Chayyel Mondal, from Dinajpur in West Bengal, for his alleged involvement in a series of mobile phone thefts. Police recovered 13 stolen mobile phones from his possession, with the total value estimated at around Rs 2.4 lakh.

The investigation began after a Vivo IQOO phone, reported stolen from Dattaprasad Petrol Pump in Colvale, was traced using the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal. Following this lead, police tracked Mondal and discovered that he had allegedly sold the stolen devices to Kuldeep Mahato, a cook residing in Mapusa. Mahato was also questioned as part of the ongoing probe.

Authorities are now working to identify Mondal’s possible accomplices and to locate and recover any remaining stolen mobile phones linked to the case.
