Kundapur, Sep 18: Udaya Chathra (43), a resident of Baregundi in Kamalashile village and owner of Siddapura Chathra Enterprises, died by suicide on September 17 by hanging himself in a room of his house.
Udaya, known for his soft-spoken nature and friendly relations with everyone, had attended the annual general meeting of the Mananje Agricultural Service Cooperative Society at Kamalashile in the morning, along with his parents and wife. After dropping them at the meeting, he told them he was heading to his business establishment, Chathra Enterprises in Siddapura. However, instead of going there, he returned directly home, went upstairs to a room, and hanged himself with a nylon rope from the ceiling fan hook.

When his parents and wife returned home after the cooperative society meeting, they noticed his vehicle parked outside, and the door was still locked with the same latch he had fastened in the morning. After searching around the house, they went upstairs and discovered him hanging.
Chathra Enterprises was reportedly doing well, and the family also owned agricultural land. Relatives and close associates said there were no apparent reasons for him to take such an extreme step, as he was financially stable.
He is survived by his parents, wife, a son, and a daughter who are still pursuing their education.
His wife, Akshara Chathra, lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered at Shankaranarayana police station.
