Belman, Sep 18: The locals of Pernal and surrounding areas staged a road block protest demanding repair of the Shirva–Pernal road.
Leading the protest, Arun Danthy Pernal said, “We had submitted several requests to the local representatives and concerned departments for road repair. They assured us the work would be taken up, but more than a month has passed and no progress is seen.”

Another protester, Sujay, condemned the poor road condition and said, “We all have cast our votes, but when it comes to addressing our problems, no one listens. Everyone comes to our doorsteps during elections. I request all the party members to travel on these worn-out roads in their vehicles and experience the hardships faced by common people.”
Addressing the gathering, Alwyn Danthy Pernal said, “We travel on these roads every day. Many assurances have already been given about providing good roads. But when it comes to actual work, they cite excuses like lack of funds, reserve forest issues, and other reasons. Why does no one mention these issues while making promises?” he questioned.
The protest was attended by a large number of locals and daily commuters. The road from Pernal to Panjimar on the Belman–Katapady state highway is completely damaged and unusable for commuting. The stretch leads to many educational institutions and business hubs. Thousands of students and daily commuters use this road, with numerous school buses plying on the route.
