Kundapur, Sep 20: A boat suffered severe damage after hitting the shore due to a technical problem near Hangarakatte, resulting in heavy losses worth several lacs of rupees.

The boat, named Mahakali and owned by Mahesh from Kodi Bengre, had left the Kodi Bengre fishing harbour on September 17 morning for fishing. By afternoon, while fishing near Hangarakatte harbour, the boat developed a technical issue that caused the engine to stop. Despite repeated attempts, the engine could not be restarted.

Meanwhile, strong winds and waves pushed the boat towards the shore, and it collided near Kodi in Kanyana village. The five people on board managed to escape safely. However, the boat and other equipment were damaged, causing an estimated loss of over Rs 10 lac.

A case regarding the incident has been registered at Kota police station.
