Trump slams media as ‘Illegal’ amid Kimmel show suspension

Washington, Sep 20: US President Donald Trump on Friday attacked American media coverage as “unduly negative” and even “illegal,” after ABC suspended comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show over remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

“They’ll take a great story and they’ll make it bad. See I think it’s really illegal, personally,” said the 79-year-old Republican in the Oval Office, reiterating his claim that coverage of him is “97 percent bad.”

Trump also backed Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chief Brendan Carr, who threatened action against broadcasters airing Kimmel’s comments, praising him as “an incredible American patriot with courage.”

The move drew bipartisan concern. Senator Ted Cruz warned that government threats to media freedom were dangerous, likening Carr’s remarks to “a mafioso coming into a bar” in Goodfellas.

Meanwhile, Trump’s own fight with the press suffered a blow as a federal judge dismissed his $15-billion defamation suit against The New York Times.
