Chennai, Feb 9: In a shocking incident, a boy of class 9 stabbed his teacher to death reportedly for scolding him.

The incident was reported from St Mary's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School here on Thursday February 9.

15-year-old Mohammed Irfan, son of daily wager, allegedly stabbed his Hindi teacher Uma Maheshwari in the neck and face. However, it is learnt that the boy was not in the same, but barged into her classroom in the morning. The class was not in session, but a few students were present.

The students who began screaming and shouting were threatened by the boy. He fled the room soon after the stabbing, but was caught by other teachers and students.

An eyewitness said that the teacher died on the spot, but police said that she died on the way to hospital.

Police said that the boy during interrogation said that he was angry with the teacher for scolding him. However, it is not yet known why he was scolded or if there is any other motive behind the act.

Sources also said that the Irfan was angry with the teacher for repeatedly marking his performance as 'not satisfactory' and complaining to his parents.

A visibly shocked Fr A Bosco, school administrator, told reporters that the boy had come prepared to attack the teacher with a knife in his bag.

Irfan was known to be a quiet student who would be to himself most of the time, said his schoolmates.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Chennai. While parents rushed to the school, the school management declared a day's holiday.

Dear Ganeshm, I am just back from a south indian city and wanted to go to a certain place which is a one hour drive. I was asking in Hindi and English many of the auto rikshaw drivers, bus conductors and even public on how to catch the bus and go that place. Non of them were able to understand these langauges which I believe is a MUST to learn. How will you communicate if you want to visit other states?

Mr Pradeep, please realize to learn first an INDIAN LANGUAGE called Tamil before expecting a whole state to fall at your feet with a FOREIGN ORIGIN LANGUAGE called Hindi.

Hindi is neither our National language nor a Indian origin language

    Dr. Kamath,
here is the answer to your questions. Courtesy - THE HINDU

“The boy has been studying in the school for the past five years and is regular but he did not study well. It is the practice of teachers to write remarks in the diary about the performance of the students. The teacher had made notes about his poor show,” Fr. Periyanayagam told reporters.

During questioning by police, the boy said he had recently seen the Hindi movie Agneepath and was influenced by the hero who takes revenge on those who falsely implicate his father. The boy had failed in both mathematics and Hindi. While the mathematics teacher had not scolded him, Ms. Maheswari had written remarks in his diary. This angered him"

The teacher had only one intention in mind , to give the best to students. This incident calls for a need of moral education in curricular and counseling for students and teachers to understand each others perspective. Lets all pray and hope that we head towards peace and not violence.

Whoever you are Mr./Ms./Mrs. Nirani, please don't post comments like you did on this occasion without having a complete knowledge of the school and its teachers. We know them and their hard work for shaping us better. Sorry about my comment but still cant accept people already starting to criticize the teacher on day one itself. I hope everybody will be enlightened soon. May her soul rest in peace.

Mohammed Ifran, you should get the maximum punishment and treated as an adult criminal and not as a jouvenile. Also he should not get parole. May the soul of Uma Maheshwari rest in eternal peace. I do not know what her families must be going through. Even the students, teachers and the staff who saw that killing incident happened in the class room must be in a state of shock.

Since Irfan is not an adult, I don't think he will be punished under adult court.

I am not sure, how Indian law works for minor. Every behaviour has its own consequences.

But this will encourage other kids to take a bold step. Irfan should try at adult court and sentenced giving 1st degree murder without parole.

This is not a shocking news to all over the world. The more we adapt westernization, more we are vulnerable to do all these stupid things. Now a days parents doesn't like their kids to be blamed, or beaten or threaten by teachers as we see only 1-2 kids per family.

This should be an eye opener to everyone. The parents should actively participate in school activities and know the situation. Even then complaints had brought froward to parents, it was the duty of the parents to tell the kid, insted putting more rage and hatred towards the teacher.

I am also not supportive of beating, scolding, insulting by the teachers but same time it is the duty of the teacher to improve the kid and parents and kids should accept the lower grades or non- performance. If the behaviour is severe then it should bring the consequences too..

the school board, council should step up and see how can improve these kind of situations and improve teacher-student relationship.

Very surprised to read his non-performance as being Muslim and their own language.

Despite DMK and AIADMK coming to power alternately several times, the 'Hindi' language continues to be imposed in Tamil Nadu. The boy is being scolded for performance in a non-native imposed language. Hindi imposition should stop first.

She scolding her student so child can learn with good intentions. Any motive? Unbelievable. I hope this incident will not deter teachers their noble duty. Terachers should be protected at all cost.
