New Delhi, Sep 23: Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is gearing up for a busy season in franchise cricket, having registered for the International League T20 (ILT20) auction and attracting strong interest from multiple Big Bash League (BBL) teams.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Ashwin has received offers from prominent BBL franchises including Hobart Hurricanes, Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, and Sydney Thunder, all keen to add the experienced Indian spinner to their ranks.
Earlier this year, Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket, followed by stepping away from the Indian Premier League (IPL), signaling his focus on T20 leagues worldwide. After prolonged talks with ILT20 organizers, Ashwin officially entered the auction set for October 1.
The ILT20, hosted in the UAE, features six franchises: Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Desert Vipers, Dubai Capitals, Gulf Giants, MI Emirates, and Sharjah Warriors. Ashwin is poised to join one of these teams if successfully bid for in the auction.
Adding to his busy calendar, Ashwin recently confirmed his participation in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament. Cricket Hong Kong officially announced his involvement last week.
Reflecting on joining the Hong Kong Sixes, Ashwin said, “We have all watched the HK Sixes as youngsters on television. This format demands a different strategy and promises high-octane action, which I’m excited to experience alongside my former teammates. Competing against quality players from other teams will also be a thrilling challenge.”
