Dubai, Sep 24: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the immediate suspension of USA Cricket’s membership, citing repeated breaches of its obligations as an ICC member. The decision follows a year-long review and engagement with key stakeholders.
In a statement, the ICC highlighted failures in governance, lack of progress toward achieving National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and actions causing reputational damage to cricket in the US and globally.

“The suspension is necessary to protect the long-term interests of the game,” the ICC said, stressing that athletes and national teams will continue to participate in ICC competitions, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Management of USA national teams will temporarily be overseen by the ICC or its designated representatives to ensure player support and continuity of high-performance programs.
The ICC’s Normalisation Committee will outline steps for USA Cricket to restore its membership rights, including demonstrable improvements in governance and operations. Progress will be monitored with consultatory support to ensure compliance with ICC standards.
Despite co-hosting last year’s T20 World Cup in the Americas, USA Cricket had been placed on notice during the 2024 ICC annual meeting for non-compliance, with 12 months given to rectify the issues.
