NGT orders GCZMA to publicly list all alleged illegal coastal structures

Panaji, Sep 25: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) to upload details of all structures alleged to be unauthorised on its official website within three months, regardless of whether demolition orders have been issued.

The tribunal specified that the online list must include the complainant’s name, the alleged violator’s name, nature of violations, action taken, and the current status of each case. It also instructed the applicant to approach the tribunal again if GCZMA fails to comply within the given timeframe.

During a hearing, the GCZMA told the NGT it would upload details of constructions for which demolition orders were passed within two weeks. However, the applicant argued that the directive should cover all complaints received since January 2019, in line with Section 4.2(vii) of the CRZ Notification, 2011.

The NGT upheld the applicant’s plea, stressing that transparency requires the publication of every alleged violation under consideration. The order aims to ensure public access to information on coastal zone violations across Goa.
