Portland, Oct 2: Portland police are appealing to the public to help locate a woman accused of assault near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in South Portland on Tuesday night.

According to officials, the incident occurred just before 8:45 pm, when a Dialogue Liaison Officer (DLO)—a sworn officer tasked with maintaining safe spaces during public gatherings—was alerted about the reported assault during a gathering outside the ICE facility.

The suspect is described as a White woman with a large septum piercing, wearing a black mask and carrying a backpack. Police said the DLO attempted to speak with her to “hear her side of the story,” but she fled the scene, prompting officers to launch an investigation.

A Major Crimes Unit detective has been assigned to the case, but details about the alleged assault remain undisclosed. “PPB members continue to conduct follow-up investigations into criminal activity and will forward cases to the Multnomah County District Attorney for prosecution when feasible,” Portland Police said in a statement.

Authorities also noted that DLOs cannot engage in enforcement actions and were introduced to improve relations with protesters following the violent demonstrations in 2020.

Meanwhile, the situation in Portland has drawn national attention after US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of military forces to safeguard Portland and ICE facilities, citing threats from “domestic terrorists.”

Police urge anyone with information about the woman’s identity or whereabouts to contact the department immediately.
