Panaji, Oct 2: Conflicting reports have emerged over the medical condition of Rama Kankonkar, a key figure in an ongoing assault case, with his family and civil society activists raising serious concerns about his recovery and the progress of the police investigation.
Sources revealed that a medical officer at Goa Medical College (GMC) has officially certified Rama Kankonkar as fit to give his statement, informing the police in writing.
However, Rama’s wife, Rati Kankonkar, strongly contested the medical assessment, stating that his condition remains far from stable. “He still can’t see properly and is suffering from trauma. He often experiences headaches and pain, and struggles to speak. While treatment is ongoing, his recovery is slow, especially on the mental front,” she said.

Amid growing speculation and conflicting updates circulating on social media, Rati Kankonkar, accompanied by a group of activists, visited the Panaji Police Station to seek clarity on the investigation’s status.
The delegation urged the police and the government to issue an official health bulletin on Rama Kankonkar’s condition and provide a public update on the progress of the investigation into the assault.
The activists emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, stressing that the public deserves to know the truth about both Rama’s medical condition and the steps being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
As concerns grow, pressure continues to mount on authorities to ensure a fair and timely investigation, while also prioritizing the well-being of the victim.
