Goa Congress demands judicial probe, CM Sawant & minister Khaunte’s resignation

Panaji, Oct 12: Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee and former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar has demanded a judicial inquiry into the assault on activist Rama Kankonkar. He also called for the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, following allegations implicating them in the case.

“These accusations, coming from the victim, cannot be dismissed or overlooked. When those in power are accused of serious misconduct, it threatens democratic accountability,” Chodankar said. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure a fair investigation.

Separately, Goa Congress President Amit Patkar warned that if the government fails to order a judicial probe, the party will take the issue across the state. He said, “Goans deserve answers, not excuses. If the government fails to act, we will expose the BJP’s arrogance and attempts to shield the powerful.” Patkar also reiterated calls for Sawant and Khaunte to step down, stating their continued presence could compromise the investigation.
