Mumbai, Oct 12: At the 70th Filmfare Awards, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar offered candid advice to aspiring actors, urging them to steer clear of restrictive contracts early in their careers. When host Shah Rukh Khan asked him to share wisdom for newcomers, Akshay didn’t hold back.
“My only advice to all the newcomers and those preparing to enter the industry — never sign a three-film deal with any producer,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience, especially co-host Karan Johar, who has famously launched many new talents.
Pointing to Aryan Khan’s much-discussed directorial debut “The Ba**ds of Bollywood”*, Akshay explained his reasoning. “Watch that film and you’ll understand what I mean. It clearly shows what a debutant goes through and what they should avoid. It’s a learning manual wrapped in a story.”

In a playful jab at Karan Johar, Akshay added, “Don’t trap newcomers in three-movie deals. Let them be free. As the saying goes — if they belong to you, they’ll come back.”
The film Akshay referenced, “The Ba**ds of Bollywood”*, follows Aasmaan Singh, a fresh face trying to navigate the ruthless world of showbiz. Played by Lakshya, the character’s journey underscores the vulnerability and challenges that new talent often faces in the industry.
Speaking further, Akshay shared his personal approach to choosing films. “For me, money follows work — not the other way around. I believe no role is too small if the story is powerful. Even if I’m not the lead, I’ll do a film if I believe in it. It’s about being part of something meaningful.”
The Bhool Bhulaiyaa star wrapped up by stressing a non-negotiable value he credits for his longevity: discipline. “Talent gets you noticed, but discipline keeps you in the game. If you get that right, you’ll last in this industry much longer than luck ever could.”
Akshay’s mix of sincerity, sharp industry insight, and lighthearted banter earned warm applause, offering a rare, honest moment amid the glitz of Bollywood’s biggest night.
