Mangaluru, Oct 18: A case has been registered at the CEN police station after a man lost Rs 64,000 when his mobile phone was hacked following a click on an e-payment challan link.
According to the complainant, he had come to the city on October 5 to meet a friend. That evening, he received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number containing a link based on an e-payment challan. Later that night, he clicked on the link to verify it, unknowingly allowing hackers to take control of his entire mobile device.

The fraudsters gained access to UPI-based applications on his phone, intercepting OTPs sent to him for various logins. Subsequently, Rs 60,000 and Rs 4,000 were transferred through two separate transactions without his knowledge.
The complainant has urged the authorities to take strict legal action against the culprits involved in the scam.
