Udupi, Oct 20: As the grand festival of lights, Deepavali, begins, Udupi has come alive with festive joy and vibrant decorations. Streets are bustling with activity as flower, cracker, and sky lamp stalls line every corner, adding to the colourful charm of the season.
To mark the celebration, several shops across the city have announced special Deepavali offers. Festive shopping has gained momentum not only in small street-side outlets but also in major shopping centres and malls. Families are thronging markets and stores to buy sweets, lamps, and gifts for their loved ones.

Traditional clay lamps and newly designed colourful electric lights are attracting shoppers in large numbers. The sale of beautifully crafted diyas is in full swing. Traders from within and outside the district have set up temporary stalls to sell firecrackers, while pushcart vendors are doing brisk business selling flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
The price of Deepavali lamps varies depending on size and design, but demand remains high across all varieties. Every household is decorated with diyas and colourful electric lights, illuminating homes for four to five days. The sale of bright decorative lights has surged as residents prepare to adorn their homes for the festival.
Local bakeries and textile shops are witnessing brisk business, with customers purchasing sweets, snacks, and festive wear. Many families are buying traditional desserts and sharing them with relatives, friends, and well-wishers.
Preparations are underway for special rituals such as Poli Puja, Gopuja, and Balindra Puja, performed to honour agriculture, cattle, and deities. Homes and surroundings are being beautifully decorated to welcome prosperity and happiness during the festival.
With glowing lamps, bursting crackers, and joyful hearts, Udupi is shining bright, embracing the true essence of Deepavali — the festival of light, love, and togetherness.
