Mumbai police return 800 lost phones as Diwali gift to citizens

Mumbai, Oct 21: In a heartwarming gesture ahead of Diwali, Mumbai Police returned 800 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners, calling it a “special Diwali return gift.” The initiative, led by DCP Zone 6 Sameer Shaikh, aimed to bring festive cheer to hundreds of families who had lost their phones to theft or misplacement.

In a special ceremony, police officials from stations under Zone 6 handed over the recovered phones to citizens. The event saw emotional moments as people expressed gratitude for being reunited with their devices just in time for the festival of lights.

Sharing the update on Instagram, Mumbai Police wrote, “Ringing happiness in the lives of Mumbaikars, DCP Zone 6 as part of a dedicated campaign to trace and return lost and stolen goods, handed over recovered valuables to their rightful owners today.”

The post quickly went viral, drawing widespread praise. “Salute to our brave heroes,” one user commented, while another wrote, “DCP Zone 6 Sameer Shaikh sir and team — superb work.”

However, amidst the appreciation, one user also shared his disappointment, saying, “I lost my phone months ago and reported it to the police, but there has been no response yet. Still, Happy Diwali!”
