Mumbai, Oct 24: In a shocking incident in Lalbaug’s Chinchpokli area on Friday morning, a 24-year-old man, upset over a breakup, stabbed his ex-girlfriend before turning the knife on himself. The accused, identified as Sonu Barai, succumbed to his injuries, while the 24-year-old woman, Manisha Yadav, is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital.

The incident occurred around 10:30 am on Dattaram Lad Marg, near Chinchpokli station. Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation began while the couple was walking together, after which Barai suddenly attacked Yadav with a knife. In a bid to escape, she ran into a nearby maternity hospital, but the assailant followed her and continued the assault inside.

Locals and hospital staff attempted to intervene, prompting Barai to slit his own throat. Both victims were immediately rushed to KEM Hospital in Parel for medical attention. The Kalachowki Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4), R. Ragasudha, reached the scene, with a police team stationed at the hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple, who were neighbours, had been in a relationship that recently ended. The accused reportedly suspected Yadav of seeing someone else. On Friday, he had called her to meet nearby, which escalated into the violent attack. Police continue to investigate the case.
