Bahraich, Oct 27: In a shocking incident, police in Bahraich district have arrested a woman and her lover for allegedly murdering her husband, who had opposed their relationship.
The deceased, identified as Zakir Ali (35), a resident of Alinagar Kala village, had been married to Haseena Begum (30) for ten years. The couple had six children, police said. Zakir’s body was found on Saturday morning under a tin shed in the verandah of his house.

Initially, Haseena told the Khairighat police that Zakir’s uncle, Asif Ali, and his relatives Rozan and Nafees had murdered her husband over a dispute related to ancestral property. Based on her complaint, police registered a case. However, as the investigation progressed, officers uncovered an entirely different story.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari, investigators found that Haseena was having an affair with Abdul Salam (20), also known as Piddi. The two had been in a relationship for nearly two years, and Zakir had become an obstacle to their plans.
Police said the duo conspired to eliminate Zakir and falsely implicate his relatives in the crime. On the night of October 24, after Zakir had fallen asleep, Haseena called Salam to her house. Together, they strangled Zakir with a dupatta and then slit his throat with a knife before placing his body on the verandah.
To divert suspicion, Haseena lodged a written complaint accusing her husband’s relatives of the murder. However, following a detailed investigation and interrogation, both Haseena and Salam confessed to their crime.
Based on their statements, police recovered the murder weapon—a knife—along with the dupatta, blood-stained clothes of the accused, and their mobile phones.
Superintendent of Police Ram Nayan Singh announced a cash reward of Rs 20,000 for the police team that successfully cracked the case.
