Faridabad, Oct 27: A 19-year-old college student died by suicide in Haryana’s Faridabad after being allegedly blackmailed with obscene, AI-generated photos and videos of his three sisters, police said on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Rahul Bharti, a second-year student of DAV College, had reportedly been under severe mental stress for the past two weeks. According to his father, Manoj Bharti, an unidentified person hacked into Rahul’s phone and used Artificial Intelligence to create nude visuals of Rahul and his sisters. “He had stopped eating properly and would remain silent most of the time,” his father said.

During investigation, police found chats between Rahul and a man named Sahil, who had sent the obscene visuals and demanded Rs 20,000. Screenshots revealed multiple audio and video calls, with Sahil threatening to make the photos viral if Rahul failed to pay. He even incited Rahul to end his life, suggesting ways to do so, officers said.
Distressed by the threats, Rahul reportedly consumed poison around 7 pm on Saturday. He was rushed to a private hospital by his family but succumbed during treatment.

“Someone had sent obscene videos and photos of my daughters to Rahul’s phone and was threatening to make them viral. Due to this mental harassment, my son took the extreme step,” the grieving father said.

Rahul’s mother, Meena Devi, accused her brother-in-law, Neeraj Bharti, of being involved in the conspiracy along with a woman. She alleged that the duo had planned the act following a family dispute six months ago.

Based on the family’s complaint, police registered a case against two persons. “Rahul consumed poison and later died during treatment. The mobile phone is being examined. Further legal action will be taken based on investigation findings,” said Investigating Officer Sunil Kumar.

Old Faridabad Police Station in-charge Vishnu Kumar described the case as “a serious example of cybercrime and the dangerous misuse of AI technology.”

Police have urged the public to report any form of online harassment and avoid sharing personal information or images online, warning that cybercriminals are increasingly using AI tools to manipulate visuals for extortion and defamation.
