Bambolim, Oct 27: Punjab FC made a powerful start to their Super Cup campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over Gokulam Kerala FC in their Group C opener at Goa on Monday. First-half goals from Muhammad Suhail, Nikhil Prabhu, and Princeton Rebello sealed a convincing victory for the defending ISL champions.
Punjab signalled their attacking intent early, with Samir Zeljkovic forcing a save from Gokulam goalkeeper Shibinraj Kunniyil before Suhail’s deflected cross looped into the net, giving Punjab an early lead. Moments later, Nikhil Prabhu doubled the advantage, heading home a precise Princeton Rebello corner to make it 2-0.

Gokulam tried to rally, with Eduardo Martinez twice denied by the crossbar — once from a curling free-kick — but Punjab remained clinical. Just before halftime, Suhail turned provider, setting up Rebello for a superb right-footed strike from the edge of the box, extending the lead to 3-0.
In the second half, Punjab controlled the tempo, maintaining defensive discipline and absorbing Gokulam’s pressure. Goalkeeper Muheet made a fine save from Alfred Moya’s free-kick, ensuring a clean sheet. Gokulam’s frustrations boiled over late on when Trijoy Dias received a straight red card for a reckless high tackle on Ricky Shabong in the 85th minute.
Punjab managed the final minutes with composure to secure all three points and a perfect start to their group campaign. The Shers will next take on Mohammedan SC on November 2 as they look to continue their strong momentum.
