Mumbai, Oct 28: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced that India will host the inaugural edition of Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) in February 2026, positioning Mumbai as a key hub for climate dialogue and action in the Global South.
“Mumbai Climate Week will be a global platform for developing nations to collaborate, share knowledge, and drive real-world solutions to climate challenges,” Fadnavis said, unveiling the event’s vision.
Over 30 countries are expected to participate in the week-long event, which will bring together city leaders, state governments, corporate innovators, civil society groups, and youth to co-create a practical climate action plan.

“Through this platform, we will amplify the Global South’s voice in global climate discussions,” Fadnavis said, adding that the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a leader in climate innovation and sustainable growth.
The first edition of MCW 2026 will focus on three interconnected themes — food systems, energy transition, and urban resilience — examined through the lenses of justice, innovation, and financing.
In addition to policy discussions, the event will feature public engagement activities, including a climate-focused food festival, and sessions on mental health, art, spirituality, sports, and cinema.
Ahead of the February event, the state will host several workshops, innovation mapping exercises, and roundtable discussions to refine ideas and identify key climate solutions.
The main event will take place from February 17–19, 2026, using a hub-and-spoke format to enable simultaneous sessions across multiple venues.
“This is not just an event — it’s the start of a movement. Mumbai Climate Week will unite diverse stakeholders to shape a sustainable and resilient future for the Global South,” Fadnavis said.
