Mumbai, Nov 4: Actress Yami Gautam, who has consistently impressed audiences with powerful performances in films such as A Thursday and Article 370, opened up about her perspective on film awards, saying that not winning any despite several nominations does not affect her anymore.

During the promotions of her upcoming legal drama Haq, Yami spoke to The Hollywood Reporter India, sharing that she draws inspiration from the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. “As much as I have understood it, what Lord Krishna says to Arjun is true. I’m not claiming to be that detached, but once you stop seeking validation from others, you are at peace,” Yami said.

Reflecting on the idea of success and recognition, the actress added, “If I get an award, it doesn’t mean I am a good actress, and if I don’t, it doesn’t mean I am not. I have stopped looking for validation through someone else’s lens.”

Yami, who first rose to fame with Vicky Donor (2013), received several debut awards early in her career. Since then, she has earned multiple Best Actress nominations at prestigious platforms such as Filmfare and IIFA for films like Bala, A Thursday, and Article 370, though the top honours have eluded her so far.

Speaking about where she finds her motivation today, Yami said, “The fact that my audience loves me, and that certain directors and producers are willing to take a chance on me—there’s no bigger award than that. Everything else is temporary. The audience knows what’s real.”

The actress will next be seen in Haq, a courtroom drama co-starring Emraan Hashmi. The film, inspired by the historic Shah Bano case, features Yami as a Muslim woman fighting for her legal rights and maintenance after divorce. Haq is slated for release on November 7.
