New Delhi, Nov 6: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday hosted the Indian women’s cricket team at Rashtrapati Bhavan, congratulating them on their historic triumph at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
In a message shared by the official handle of the President of India on X, it was noted:
“Members of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, winner of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the team and said they have created history and become role models for the younger generation. She said that this team reflects India — representing diverse regions, social backgrounds, and circumstances, yet united as one Team India.”

During the meeting, captain Harmanpreet Kaur presented President Murmu with a special Indian team jersey carrying the autographs of all players.
The felicitation followed India’s commanding 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday night — a win that brought home the nation’s first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title.
A day earlier, the team had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. Dressed in formal attire and wearing their gold medals, the players were lauded by the Prime Minister for their resilience and spirit, particularly for turning their campaign around after three consecutive league-stage defeats and for handling online criticism with dignity.
PM Modi interacted warmly with players and support staff, praising their determination and unity. The team also gifted him a signed Indian jersey as a token of appreciation.
The squad had arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday evening amid tight security and were greeted by euphoric fans. Celebrations continued at their hotel, where Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and Sneh Rana danced joyously to the beat of dhols as staff and guests joined in the festivities.
After their meetings with the nation’s top leaders, players and staff are set to return to their hometowns. Shafali Verma, who was named Player of the Match in the final, will travel to Nagaland to lead the North Zone team in the ongoing Inter-Zonal T20 tournament.
