Mumbai, Nov 12: A major security scare unfolded on Tuesday after an Air India Express flight from Mumbai to Varanasi received a bomb threat while airborne. The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing, prompting immediate action from security agencies.
According to reports, a threat email warning of a bomb on board was received while the flight was mid-air. Following this, authorities declared a high alert at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. The plane was safely landed, and all passengers were evacuated without incident. Bomb detection and disposal squads are currently conducting thorough checks inside the aircraft, while investigators are tracing the origin of the threat mail.

The incident comes amid heightened tension following a suicide blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed several lives and left many injured. In a further alarming development, five major international airports — Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram — have also received bomb threats via email.
The threat mail, reportedly sent to IndiGo Airlines around 3:30 pm, warned of coordinated explosions at these airports. Security agencies across the country have since gone on high alert, tightening checks and surveillance.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to identify the sender and verify the authenticity of the threats. More updates are awaited.
