Pune, Nov 13: At least eight people have died and more than 20 others injured in a severe accident on Thursday near the Navale bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway. The incident involved a collision between two container trucks, which caught fire, and a speeding container subsequently rammed into multiple vehicles, officials reported.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with several reported in critical condition. Fire Brigade and Police teams quickly arrived to control the blaze, which had engulfed two trucks and a car. Rescue operations are ongoing to remove a car that was crushed and trapped between the containers.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when a loaded container truck traveling from Satara to Mumbai lost control, reportedly due to brake failure. The truck collided with 7–8 vehicles, triggering a chain reaction that involved two large container trucks and a trapped car, which subsequently caught fire due to friction and damage.

A police officer noted that preliminary investigations point to speeding and potential mechanical failure as contributing factors. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and authorities continue to investigate the cause.

In response, NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule expressed her condolences on X, describing the incident as “extremely sad and unfortunate” and offered prayers for the injured.

This is not the first accident near the Navale bridge in recent weeks. Nearly two weeks ago, a truck carrying tiles lost control and collided with three vehicles in a similar high-speed crash.

Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations, particularly on highways prone to accidents.
