BJP MP objects to ‘Ask About Islam’ posters in Amravati

Amravati, Nov 14: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde has raised strong objections to a large poster reading “Ask About Islam” that recently appeared in Amravati, alleging that it may be linked to religious conversion efforts. The poster, reportedly put up by the Islamic Information Centre (IIC), has triggered tension within sections of the local community.

Speaking to reporters, Bonde said the posters had been placed in densely populated Hindu localities, raising suspicion about their intent. “By putting up such posters, there is a larger motive of conversion,” he claimed.

The MP said he had approached the city police and urged them to investigate the origins of the posters and identify those responsible. “We have asked the police to look into the matter and expose those behind it. At present, nobody’s name is mentioned on the poster,” he said.

Bonde also said he contacted the phone number printed on the poster. “I was told it was from the International Islam Centre, and that the objective was to inform people about Islam,” he said, but added that police must still “get to the roots and find out the real objective.”

About a month ago, Amravati and other cities witnessed a flare-up of tensions after “I Love Muhammad” posters were displayed, sparking clashes between two groups. In response, “I Love Mahadev” posters were subsequently put up in several parts of the city.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on the latest poster controversy.
